"Why won't they listen?"
September 27, 2001~3:30 p.m.

Sometimes I wonder why some of my children won't listen to directions. Or more like they won't follow directions! I have about 3 or so that we are constantly having to re-direct over and over again. They don't respond to anything...sweet talk, soft voices, loud voices, bribes, time out etc. I've gotten to the point where I'm rewarding all the children that are following directions around them so they can see they are missing out. I don't even know if that is working. I guess we just keep trying new stuff until something works. it is so hard when they are so low functioning. They really aren't reasoning well and are thinking on a toddler level but in the body of a pre teen. It s very frustrating!
I like this time of day. The loud children are gone. It is quiet in my classroom. I have time to reflect on my day and I can get paperwork done. I wish I could just busy myself with teaching and loving my kids rather than paperwork and meetings.
I've seriously thought about maybe going back to school to work with computers. Not be able to fix them, but be able to be a technology coordinator or something. I'm enjoying my class and I really love computers. Everyone comes to me to ask me how to fix their's or how to do something. So I'm kind of in that position now. I wish I could be the "Media Specialist" formerly titled the librarian. I love books so much and I love computers that I believe I would enjoy that. I'll have to look into that. I wonder how long I would have to go back to school *and* if there are any positions out there available. The only thing about a MS is there is usually only ONE in each school. Not much room for more like with teachers. I still like the holidays that a teacher has so I'd like to stay in the school system.
I'm just rambling now. Just thinking and stuff... Not that I'd change from special ed. But it sure would be nice to work on computers more and be paid!
