"home from trip"

April 07, 2004~5:37 p.m.

We are back from our "no time schedule" anniversary vacation to Vegas. For the most part everything went well. What was funny was that we saw a couple and their two sons at our local airport in line to board the plane. FYI-We only have one plane go out at a time and I think there are a total of 6 times they fly in and out each day.

So we asked where they were headed and they were headed to Vegas also! They used to go to church with us and we all worked on A W A N A together for 2 years. We had discussed going on vacation there about a year or so ago and then it left our minds until we saw them and they were going also. They had the exact same flights we had goign out there so it was nice to be able to sit and chit-chat with them as we waited to board.

Saturday, our anniversary was when we flew out. Before we left, we exchanged presents. I bought DH a braided ficus tree with a golf ball braided in the trunk. It was from a Bonsai company in New York. DH bought me a glass cake stand with dome lid (which I requested) and he also bought a new quilt and shams for the bed. He picked out a nice one with yellows and blues on it. So we both kind of went over budget on our gifts, but, oh well. I did make my card though.

Flying out was fine. Our hotel, while not the best on the strip, was absolutely free, so you can't beat that. We had double beds though, so we took turns doing the "deed" in each other's bed and then retreating to our own bed to sleep in peace and no one nudging the other. I enjoyed sleeping in soooo much! I needed it.

Sunday we met up with our friends in the afternoon and we toured differnet casinos such as NY NY, TI, Venetian, etc. We hung around to watch the pirat show at TI. I was surprised it was totally different than it was two years ago. One whole boat was loaded with ladies in skimpy costumes. I thought I was watching a str!p show, instead of a pirate show. Oh well. It was different the say the least. We also caught the volcano erupting for a total of---1 minute. All that hype about one minute of red lights and fire.

That evening we found a place to all eat a buffet and enjoyed talking and such. Their boys are pretty good kids and aren't embarrassed to talk to adults and hand out with us. They were spending the whole week there and were going to explore the grand cany0n and the Ho0ver d@m. The kids will enjoy that!

Monday we spent hopping from the casinos and such. I ended up winning some of my money back I had lost the first day. Counting the souvenires I bought, I was only less than 100 down. But then stupid me, on the last night we are there, wasted in some machines and roulette. I didn't do as well on the wheel this time. That night we also saw a hypnot!st show. It was pretty funny. It wasn't as expensive as most of the shows out there so for the money it was good.

Returning home was another story. We thought we had plenty of time to get breakfast and get to the airport in time. So we head out and my inpatient husband starts turning down side roads to turn the car in and we keep hitting construction and dead ends. I try to suggest we keep on the strip so we dont' get lost and make it there ok. He finally does. So we are running late and get to the car rental and they are taking forever to check the cars in. So we waste a lot of time doing that. When we get to the airport we have about 4 minutes until take off. I thought as long as we had 30 minutes it was ok, but their rules are different there. We tried to use curbside check in but they were so slow. Then one guy took his lunch break. Finally a couple let us go ahead of them and they announce that it is too late to check in there. So we run inside and DH calls on the phone while I talk to the desk clerk. He said we are late and that the plane takes off in 30 minutes. I'm about to cry because all I want to do is get home to my girls and see them. Every baby and toddler we saw all weekend reminded us of the girls and we missed them so much.

We finally were able to get on the next flight to ATL but we would not make the last connecting flight to our town for the night. We could leave at 8 am in the mornign and be home by 9. We went ahead and took it. Then when we saw the back up at check in, we saw why we never would have made the plane on time. It was awfully backed up. Our flight home was bumpy from the weather. We talked about renting a car and driving home, otherwise we would have to get a hotel, get up early and make an 8 am flight when we are only a fw hours from home.

So after we picked up our luggage, we went to the car rentals and could only find one that would let us do a one way trip. We paid out the nose for it, but we just wanted to get home.

So on our ride home, we, of course, ran into construction and the high way backed up forever. It put us behind a lot. We finally picked up our cars and got home somewhere around 2:30 or 3:00 in the morning. My mom had just been up feeding the baby. She said she was headed home. We were so thankful she could watch them while we were gone. But we had to go peek in at htem to see them. The baby woke up and we cuddled her. I laid her on the bed and leaned over to talk to her. She smiled and laughed and cooed. She reached out to my face and touched it over and over as if to say, "Is it really you????" She seemed to really be happy we were home. She pulled my glasses off!

On another negative side, I started getting a sore throat yesterday morning and it only progressed throughout the ride home until I could barely swallow or talk. It still hurts today and my nose is stopped up. I'm assuming I have another sinus infection. How great! I started getting the sweats today. Hopefully by tonight I will be better. I have food to cook for tomorrow as the paper is coming to take pictures. I hope I don't look dead tired in the pictures!

What a trip. But we did enjoy celebrating our anniversary together. The time by ourselves was wonderful!
