"code fix"

We were in violation of the means of egress code. In other words, the windows in our bedroom were not big enough by code, to allow for escape in a fire situation or for the firemen to get in. I looked it up on the internet and it showed that the window must be big enough for a firemen with an airtank to get in. So we had two choices...add another window on the side by the porch, or add a door. Bill said a door would be easier and faster. We had originally wanted a door there anyway. So this will work. It is just unexpected and an extra expense. The builder said it was his fault because he didn't realize it was against code. So he is eating the extra money it will cost to fix it. I feel bad. But that is his job.
